Brazil beat India 4-0 in friendly at Kolkata's Salt Lake stadium
India failed to score as five-time world champions Brazil won the friendly in Kolkata on October 3, with Samuel Lino scoring twice.
A friendly between the Indian men's national football team and the Brazil men's national team was played on October 3 at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan (VYBK) in Salt Lake, Kolkata. Brazil won the match 4-0.
India could not score a single goal through the match. Brazil played aggressively from the start, and the Indian players looked helpless against the five-time world champions. India are ranked 138th in the FIFA world rankings, while Brazil are currently sixth in the world. There is a big gap between the two sides in the rankings.
It was the first time India and Brazil had met on the football field. Brazil showed through their play why they are called five-time world champions. They took control of the match from the outset and kept India on the back foot.
Young Brazilian star Estevao scored the first goal in the 28th minute with a brilliant shot, putting Brazil 1-0 ahead. The Indian players then showed some good play for a while. But in the 42nd minute, a goal by Pedro made it 2-0 to Brazil. The score stayed that way until half-time.
Both teams made changes after the break. India took off Jamil Sandhu and gave Prabhsukhan Gill a chance. Mohammed Sannan and Akash Mishra were replaced by Ashique Kuruniyan and Jay Gupta. For Brazil, Arthur Dias, Matheusinho, Gabriel Bontempo, Vinicius Junior and Douglas Santos were taken off. Gabriel, Wanderson, Douglas Luiz, Samuel Lino and Bruno Guimaraes came on in their place.
After half-time, Samuel Lino played brilliantly for Brazil and scored the team's third goal in the 57th minute. The Indian team then held the Brazilian players off for a long period and did not let them score. Even so, Samuel Lino struck again in the 94th minute, sealing Brazil's 4-0 win.
