The three-match ODI series between India and West Indies has just ended. West Indies beat India in the last match, but India won the series 2-1. India's batters played superbly in the series, while the bowlers could not shine to the same extent.

With the bowling looking weak, talk of bringing Mohammed Shami back into the side and giving him a chance has gathered pace again. The demand for the return of the experienced fast bowler is coming from cricket circles. The reason given for the demand is that the performance of India's fast bowlers in the ODI series against West Indies was ordinary and disappointing.

Dinesh Karthik, former India batter and well-known cricket analyst, has given his view on the debate. According to him, the Indian cricket team has now moved beyond the era of Mohammed Shami.

Speaking on both the current state of India's bowling and Shami's future, Karthik said it is quite true that India's young fast bowlers could not make an impact in the series against West Indies. But the Indian team is now thinking about the future. Mohammed Shami has certainly been a good, great and successful bowler for India, but Indian cricket has now moved ahead of him, Karthik said.

The newcomers and young fast bowlers in the side could not bowl effectively in the series. They did not take wickets in the Powerplay and failed to control runs in the death overs.

On the other hand, Shami has consistently produced match-winning performances for India in one-day cricket, especially in the ICC World Cup. Even so, considering his advancing age, fitness challenges and the Indian team's changing approach, the selection committee is currently seen giving chances to new faces.

In short, India won the series because the batters played well, but the shortcomings in bowling have restarted the discussion about Shami. Karthik's view on it is clear: the Indian team has moved on.
