Bhadravati holds peaceful sit-in on Gandhi Jayanti for OBC rights
People from different communities joined a peaceful sit-in satyagraha in Bhadravati on Gandhi Jayanti, demanding the legitimate rights of the OBC community.
A peaceful sit-in satyagraha for the legitimate rights of the OBC community was held in Bhadravati town on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation. Recalling Gandhi's ideals of truth, non-violence and peace, people from various communities took part in large numbers.
During the satyagraha, all present sang together 'Vaishnav Jan To', a bhajan dear to Mahatma Gandhi, conveying a message of peace and social unity. Along with raising awareness about the OBC community's legitimate rights, an appeal was made that all members of the community set aside their differences and come forward united.
Senior members of the Karmayogi Gadge Maharaj Swachhata Samiti took part in a cleanliness drive. The voluntary participation of senior citizens drew the attention of those present. The samiti is run by the Jai Jagannath Maharaj Retired Mitra Mandal of Gavrala, and the initiative of its members stood out.
Those present included Pandurang Tonge of the Dhanoje Kunbi community, former mayor Anil Dhanorkar, current mayor Praful Chatki, deputy mayor Sudhir Satpute, Purushottam Matte of the Grahak Panchayat, guides Rajesh Badkhal and Mahesh Thengne, and Advocate Matte. Councillors, women councillors and OBC members from various communities also attended in large numbers.
Meanwhile, in keeping with tradition, the Rashtrapita Nagarvikas Manch paid tribute in Bhadravati to Mahatma Gandhi and the late Lal Bahadur Shastri, former Prime Minister of the country. Office-bearers of the manch, including Dhananjay Gundawar, Dharmendra Havelikar, Vijay Bhoyar, Ravi Pawar and Prakash Das, were present.
A tribute programme was held in the morning under the leadership of Bhupesh Kayarkar, president of the Bhadravati city unit of the Indian National Congress. Subhan Bhai Saudagar, Suraj Gawande, Avinash Parodhe, Sandeep Chatpakar, Dilip Mandhare and Dilip Thenge, along with councillors, women councillors and Congress workers, were present.
