Asian Games: Indian men's 50m rifle 3-position team wins silver

Indian shooters won the silver medal in the men's 50m rifle 3-position team event at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. The Indian team of Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Neeraj Kumar and Rudrankksh Patil scored a total of 1762-94x in the final to finish second. China's team won gold with 1766-95x, while South Korea settled for bronze with 1751-87x.

Along with the team medal, both Aishwary and Neeraj also qualified for the individual final, another positive from the competition.

Indian shooters were in strong form from the start of the event. In the kneeling stage, the Indian team scored a combined 587 points across both series. In the prone stage, the shooters were equally consistent, scoring 593 points across both series, taking India's combined score after kneeling and prone to 1180. In the final stage, standing, the Indian team scored 582 points, for a final score of 1762-94x. China finished just four points ahead of India to take the gold.

Along with the team silver, Indian shooters also made a mark in the individual qualification round. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar finished third with 589-34x to secure a place in the individual final. Neeraj Kumar finished fourth with 588-34x and also qualified for the final. Rudrankksh Patil finished ninth with 585-26x, but could not make the final because a maximum of two shooters from one country can qualify for the individual final.

There was more good news for India in the same event. The pair of Suruchi and Kamaljeet Singh Bhamra won gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, topping both the qualification round and the final.

It was a day of double success for India in shooting: gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event and silver in the men's 50m rifle 3-position team event. India has now won 10 medals in shooting at this edition of the Games, and this is India's seventh silver medal in the 50m rifle 3-position event so far this year.
