Amit Thackeray says he prayed to Ganpati for Raj Thackeray to become CM
On a Pune visit, Amit Thackeray said he wants his father Raj Thackeray to become Maharashtra chief minister and raised farmer suicides and paper leaks
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray's political role is a frequent talking point, but now a statement from his son Amit Thackeray has made headlines. On a visit to Pune, Amit Thackeray revealed what he had prayed for to Ganpati Bappa. He said clearly that he wants Raj Thackeray to become chief minister of Maharashtra.
Citing his father's work, Amit Thackeray expressed confidence in his leadership ability. He said, "A man like Raj Thackeray should be in the post of chief minister. I know what that man can do. He has done a lot of work in Nashik city. If he can do so much for Nashik city, he can do a lot for the entire state too."
Saying that several questions confront the state right now, Amit Thackeray also raised the issues of paper leak incidents, farmer suicides and the safety of passengers travelling by rail. He expressed confidence that Raj Thackeray could work on all these issues. His statement has become a subject of discussion in political circles.
Amit Thackeray has been in the news before as well. A controversy had broken out over a photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a government polytechnic college in Pune. After a photo of Modi placed next to one of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the college office was removed, police had filed a case against Amit Thackeray and some MNS workers.
Due to a shortfall in rainfall, farmers in several parts of the state are in distress. Against this backdrop, Amit Thackeray also took a dig at the government over cashews and almonds being served to members of parliament at a drought review meeting.
Amit Thackeray said, "It is not our view that you should stop eating. Eat whatever food you want. But solve the problems of the people. Sitting in a room, you will not understand the problems of farmers. Go to the homes of farmers."
While Amit Thackeray has expressed his wish for Raj Thackeray to become chief minister on one hand, he has also directly questioned the government on farmers' issues on the other. Both statements have heated up the political discussion around his Pune visit.
