Eight students from Alandi who had gone on an outing to Diveagar drowned in the sea. After the tragedy, the local administration has swung into action. The Alandi Municipal Council has begun inspecting unauthorised coaching classes and other establishments in the town.

In this drive, Winners Academy, which is linked to the students involved in the Diveagar incident, was sealed outright. When a special squad of the council inspected the building, it found that the academy had neither a trade licence nor a no-objection certificate (NOC).

According to the council, coaching classes were being run under the name Winners Academy in a building on property number old 1137 (new LAN00001729), owned by Narayan Haribhau Das. A check of council records showed that the academy had not obtained a trade licence or the required NOC. The administration said the classes were therefore operating without the necessary permissions.

On learning of the matter, Alandi Municipal Council Chief Officer Madhav Khandekar immediately directed that action be taken. A special squad led by tax department head Seema Charve then carried out the action. Under police protection, the Winners Academy building was locked and sealed.

Following the Diveagar incident, the council has also started a drive to check the permissions of coaching classes and other establishments in the town. The administration has clearly said that all educational institutions and coaching classes must operate only after obtaining the required trade licences, NOCs and other legal permissions.

The council has also warned that legal action will be taken against establishments that do not follow the rules. The deaths of eight Alandi students in the Diveagar beach incident have cast a pall of grief over the town. The administration's action has brought the issue of educational establishments running without permission back into discussion.
