Ahmedabad speeds up five-star hotel construction ahead of Commonwealth Games 2030
With Ahmedabad bidding to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and 2036 Olympics, construction of five-star hotels and hospitality projects has picked up pace across the city.
Construction of five-star hotels and hospitality projects in Ahmedabad has picked up pace as the city bids to host the Commonwealth Games 2030 and the Olympics 2036. Several large hotel projects are underway in preparation for these events.
According to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, about 9 hotels were approved in 2025 and are currently under construction. In addition, 4 more hotels were approved for construction in 2026. Five new five-star hotel projects are coming up in and around Sindhu Bhavan Road, of which construction has already begun on three.
A 16-storey five-star hotel with 200 to 300 rooms is planned on the western bank of the Sabarmati river, along with a convention and exhibition centre at the same site. Infrastructure projects are also underway across Ahmedabad.
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani said about 9 hotels were approved within the municipal corporation area in 2025 and are currently under construction at a fast pace. He said four more hotels were approved in 2026 and their construction has also begun. A large number of new hotels are coming up in different parts of the city.
Hotel Association, Ahmedabad president Narendra Somani said preparations for the Commonwealth Games 2030 have begun. He said work on infrastructure and hospitality projects is progressing at full pace. Construction of three large hotels has begun near Sindhu Bhavan Road, while permission has been sought from the municipal corporation for two to three more hotels.
Somani also said a large convention centre and a large five-star hotel are planned on the riverfront, and plans are also being considered for one or two more hotels near the airport. Besides hotels, work has also begun across Ahmedabad on roads, bridges, the Jal Jeevan Mission, drainage, railways and public transport services.
Ahmedabad is set to host the Commonwealth Games 2030. The Indian government is also bidding to host the Olympics in 2036. If India gets to host the 2036 Olympics, a sports city will be built in Ahmedabad itself. This is why infrastructure facilities are being developed at a fast pace in the city.
