Lakhs of Central government employees and pensioners across the country are waiting for the 8th Pay Commission. The Centre is said to be preparing good news for more than one crore employees soon, and there is significant movement in administrative circles on implementing the commission.

The commission was given a total of 18 months to submit its final report. Eleven months have already passed, which leaves only six to seven months.

According to sources, the commission is likely to submit its final report to the Central government in May 2027. The recommendations it makes will decide employees' fitment factor and their minimum pay.

It is not only Central employees who are waiting eagerly for the recommendations; government employees in various states are too. Uttar Pradesh government employees currently receive pay under the 7th Pay Commission, as Central employees do. Assembly elections are due in Uttar Pradesh next year, so a big question being asked everywhere is whether the state government will gift its employees the 8th Pay Commission and implement a pay rise before the polls.

The Uttar Pradesh government has not yet made any official announcement on the 8th Pay Commission. No proposal on it has been approved at a Cabinet meeting. However, going by the state government's past record, it gives its employees the same benefit soon after the Centre implements a pay commission.

The Uttar Pradesh government approved the 7th Pay Commission recommendations on December 13, 2016, and implementation began on January 1, 2017.

The 6th Pay Commission recommendations were approved in August 2008. Implementation began in December 2008, but it was deemed effective from January 1, 2006, and arrears for that period were paid to employees.

Under the rules, a pay commission may submit its final report in 18 months or less. Officials are therefore discussing intensely that the possibility of the 8th Pay Commission recommendations being implemented before the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections cannot be ruled out entirely.
