5 things you should never give your daughter for her in-laws' home, says vastu
Vastu shastra and old family beliefs say certain items should never be sent with a married daughter to her in-laws' home
Once a daughter marries, she belongs to her in-laws' home. When she visits her parents, they never send her back empty handed, giving her pickles, papads, clothes and other things out of love. But according to vastu shastra and the beliefs of elders, there are certain things that should never be given to a daughter when she is sent back to her in-laws' home. Here is what they are.
The first is sharp objects like knives and scissors. A daughter is often given knives, scissors or sharp utensils for her new home, but according to vastu shastra this should never be done. It is believed that giving sharp objects creates distance in relationships. They are said to increase negative energy in the home and create misunderstandings between husband and wife or mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. It is considered better for the daughter to buy such items herself after reaching her in-laws' home.
The second is a gas stove or anything connected with fire. In earlier times there was a tradition of giving a hearth to a daughter at her farewell, but now it is believed that a daughter should not be given a gas stove, lighter or anything connected with fire from her parents' home. Fire is associated with quarrels and anger, so giving such an item is believed to cause constant tension and fighting in the in-laws' home.
The third is sour pickle. When a daughter visits during summer holidays, her mother lovingly makes her favourite raw mango or lemon pickle for her. But according to vastu shastra, a married daughter should not be given too much sour pickle from her parents' home. Sourness is associated with her relationships at her in-laws' home, and just as pickle is sour, the relationship is believed to lose its sweetness. So if pickle is to be given, it should be given in a small amount, or a sweet pickle should be given instead, but a large jar of sour pickle should be avoided.
The fourth is thorny plants. These days it has become common to gift plants for birthdays or a new home, but a daughter should never be given a cactus or any thorny plant as a gift. Vastu shastra says thorny plants bring unrest into her home and the atmosphere stays prickly, increasing quarrels in the household. Instead, a money plant, tulsi or rose plant can be given, as these are considered auspicious.
The fifth is black-coloured clothes. Many women like the colour black, but for an auspicious occasion, and especially when giving something to a daughter from her parents' home, black clothes should not be given. In our tradition black is considered a symbol of negativity. On a good occasion, black is mostly considered inauspicious. So while giving clothes to a daughter, colourful clothes such as red, green and yellow should be given, as this is believed to keep sweetness in the relationship. These are the 5 things that should not be given as gifts to a married daughter when she is sent from her parents' home to her in-laws' home.
