The Maharashtra Public Works Department has approved major district road status for 26 km of roads linking villages in Arjuni-Morgaon taluka, Gondia district.
The Public Works Department of the Maharashtra government has approved the upgrade of roads totalling 26 km in Arjuni-Morgaon taluka of Gondia district to the status of major district roads. Until now, these roads were classed as other district roads.
The government took the decision on September 4, 2026, on the basis of a proposal from the Chief Engineer of the Nagpur regional division. The proposal had been under the government's consideration for some time. The roads will now be reclassified from other district roads to major district roads.
The roads covered by the decision connect villages including Morgaon, Nilaj, Malkanpur, Mahurkuda, Siroli, Mahagaon, Bori, Mandokhal, Korambitola and Arunnagar. Their combined length is 26 km.
The government took the decision in view of the importance of the roads for movement between villages, traffic management and people's daily travel. With major district road status, it will be easier to plan the development of these roads and carry out necessary improvements.
Special mention has been made of the efforts of MLA Rajkumar Badole behind the approval. Responding to public demand, he made special efforts at the government level to have the roads upgraded and got them sanctioned.
The government decision also lays down some important conditions. Before any new work is started on these roads, the necessary details for their full length must be entered in the Public Works Department's records. In addition, the concerned officials will be responsible for resolving any complaints that arise over the development of the roads.
The decision is considered important for villagers. It is hoped that planning for road development will become more effective, traffic arrangements in rural areas will improve and links between villages will be strengthened. Residents of the area have thanked MLA Rajkumar Badole for it.
