A new boys' hostel is being built on the campus of Laxminarayan Innovation Technological University (LITU) in Nagpur for students who come from outside the city. It will house 500 students and will be modern, safe and environment-friendly.
The hostel is being built on the special initiative of the Social Welfare Department. The Public Works Department (PWD) has prepared the detailed plan. According to the plan, the building will be among the tallest on educational campuses in central India. It will also be the first hostel in Vidarbha to be powered by advanced bifacial solar technology.
The proposed hostel will be fully equipped and grand, with 12 floors including the ground floor. Separate spaces have been provided in it for the students to live, study and relax. According to the PWD, attention has also been paid to the interior design and finishing of the building.
With the aim of protecting the environment and saving a large amount of electricity, dual-glass bifacial solar module panels are being installed on the roof in place of conventional solar panels. These panels absorb sunlight from both sides and can generate up to 27 per cent more electricity.
For safety, high-capacity main fire pumps and an automatic fire-fighting network are being installed across the campus. This will ensure round-the-clock safety for the students living on the campus.
Not only the main building, but the entire land around the hostel will also be landscaped. Durable stamped concrete pavement roads will be built in the outer premises for pedestrians and vehicles. A strong boundary wall with LDPE water barriers, proper road markings and attractive grille gates will also be built. The multi-storey building will have adequate parking.
The number of talented students seeking admission to the university from across the country has risen sharply. In this hostel, being developed through the Social Welfare Department, needy students from the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, OBCs, persons with disabilities, orphans and the economically weaker sections (EWS) will be given priority in admission as per rules.
This will give students lasting relief from the financial burden of expensive rooms and costly private messes outside the campus, and they will be able to complete their technical studies without worry.
