Pune's Noble Hospitals launches AI-enabled 3D mammography machine for early breast cancer detection

Noble Hospitals and Research Centre in Pune has introduced an advanced 3D mammography machine from Hologic for breast cancer screening and early detection. The hospital says it is the first AI-enabled mammography system in Pune.

The technology provides high-resolution 3D imaging of the breast. It also offers support from artificial intelligence (AI) and post-contrast imaging, which allow suspicious lumps in the breast to be examined more closely.

The machine was inaugurated by Dr Dilip Mane, chairman and managing director of Noble Hospitals and Research Centre. Deputy Managing Director Dr Diviz Mane, Group Executive Officer Dr Sanjay Pathare, senior consultant and head of the radiology department Dr Sagar Kadam, breast onco-surgeon Dr Girija Patil, senior onco-surgeon Dr Ashish Pokharkar and other guests were present.

The system is designed to help doctors view breast tissue more closely, detect small and potentially suspicious lesions, and better assess cases that need further investigation.

A major benefit of early detection is that breast cancer can be present in a woman even before a lump that can be felt by hand or any clear symptom appears. With finer imaging, doctors can catch an abnormality at an earlier stage and plan further tests in time.

Dr Sagar Kadam, head of the radiology department, said, "Early detection plays a major role in the effective treatment of breast cancer. This advanced 3D mammography system increases our ability to detect suspicious lesions at an early stage, even when there is no lump that can be felt by hand or any visible symptom. High-resolution 3D imaging, AI support and post-contrast imaging give doctors valuable additional information to assess areas of concern and decide the right next steps."

Breast onco-surgeon Dr Girija Patil said, "Mammography is an important screening tool for detecting breast abnormalities. This advanced technology can help assess suspicious findings more closely and identify cases that need further investigation. When a suspicious lesion is found, further tests, including a biopsy where medically necessary, help establish the diagnosis.
