The Pimpri-Chinchwad Co-operative Housing Societies Federation has asked the PMRDA, PCMC and the Pune Collector for feeder buses, autorickshaws and skywalks to reach Metro stations.

Hinjewadi, November 1, 2026: So that passengers can easily reach stations on the newly opened Pune Metro Line 3, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Co-operative Housing Societies Federation (PCCSHF) has submitted representations to the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and the Pune Collector.

The federation wants feeder bus and autorickshaw services to link large residential areas in Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Punawale, Tathawade and Ravet to the nearest Metro stations. It has also proposed skywalks and pedestrian bridges at key locations to give commuters a safe route.

Under the proposals, the feeder bus routes would connect large housing societies around Utsav Chowk and Dange Chowk in Wakad, Kokane Chowk in Pimple Saudagar, residential colonies in Punawale, Akshara Elitism Society and Ganga Road in Tathawade, and the Ravet bridge to the Wakad and Balewadi Metro stations.

The federation has suggested that the buses run at intervals of about 10 to 15 minutes during office hours, with extra trips added according to passenger demand. It also wants the PMRDA, PCMC, Pune Metro and PMPML to carry out a joint survey of passenger demand and set up dedicated feeder bus stops near the entrances of Metro stations.

Along with public transport services, the federation has drawn attention to the need for good walking facilities around Metro stations. It has suggested skywalks linking Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk with Infosys, Cyberhill Clinic, Lakshmi Chowk and the Hinjewadi Phase 2 area. Links from Wakad Metro station to Wakad village and Utsav Chowk, and from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk to Balewadi Metro station and Balewadi village, have also been proposed.

The skywalks are expected to have solar-powered roofs, LED lights, CCTV cameras, ramps, lifts, signage and emergency assistance arrangements. The federation has suggested pedestrian links of roughly 500 metres to one kilometre at suitable locations, where technically feasible.

Federation president Sachin Londhe said, "Metro facilities should not remain limited to the railway station. Residents should be able to reach the station from their housing society conveniently and at affordable rates. If last-mile connectivity is not right, many commuters will keep depending on private vehicles and the very purpose of public transport will be defeated. That is why we have suggested feeder buses, autorickshaw connectivity and pedestrian skywalks, so that travel by Metro becomes easier and safer."

The federation has requested the authorities concerned to call a joint meeting within 15 days, carry out a preliminary survey of passenger demand and routes, prepare a feasibility report and cost estimates, and start the feeder bus service on a pilot basis.

It has also asked for a detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed pedestrian facilities, covering land availability, traffic movement, construction safety, universally accessible design and maintenance needs.

The federation says these measures would increase Metro ridership, reduce dependence on private vehicles, improve last-mile connectivity and ease traffic congestion around Metro stations.
