Health, FDA and police teams raided a clinic near Sant Bhagwan Baba Chowk in Beed city and detained a man said to be treating patients without any medical degree.
Police in Beed district have detained another alleged bogus doctor as part of a drive against fake medical practitioners. A raid was carried out on the Sanjeevani Ayurvedic Chikitsa Kendra on Nagar Road, near Sant Bhagwan Baba Chowk in Beed city. The action was taken jointly by the health department, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and city police.
The clinic was reportedly running a practice despite having no medical degree, and the person concerned was caught red-handed on the spot. The incident has caused considerable commotion in the city.
A few days ago, the District Collector had directed strict action against bogus doctors at a special meeting, after which the health department has been on alert. A similar case had surfaced in Kaij taluka a short while earlier. On Thursday, the administration received information about this fake clinic operating in the heart of Beed city on Nagar Road.
The inquiry turned up several startling facts. On paper, the dispensary was being run in the names of registered doctors from Mumbai, Pune and Buldhana. In reality, a man named Rishikesh Kanade was treating patients by misusing those names and certificates. He had neither a medical qualification nor a legal degree. The entire operation was carried on in the name of treating nerve and bone ailments.
Acting on a tip-off, the administration's team raided the clinic under heavy police deployment. During a search lasting several hours, a large stock of medicines and patient treatment records were seized from the dispensary.
Police have taken the alleged fake doctor into custody immediately. The legal process of registering a case at Shivajinagar police station is under way. He is for now in custody, and the formalities of an arrest and an FIR are still in progress.
The administration has stepped up a joint campaign in the district against such quacks who cheat ordinary people with fake degrees. Bogus doctors are in a state of panic after the action.
