FDA seizes roasted gram, almonds and black raisins worth Rs 6.58 lakh from three Pune establishments

Pune, October 28, 2026: During checks on food quality and safety, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seized a total of 1,329 kg of roasted gram, almonds and black raisins from three establishments in Pune. The seized goods are valued at Rs 6.58 lakh.

Officials said the action was taken because the inspection found alleged labelling lapses and also pointed to possible violations of prescribed quality standards. They said further action under food safety rules is now being initiated.

During the inspection by the FDA's Pune division, officials first seized 478 kg of roasted gram from M/s Ricky Traders, valued at Rs 53,775. At M/s S S Sales Corporation, 358 kg of almonds, valued at Rs 3.58 lakh, was found and also seized.

The third action was at M/s Nirmal Cold Storage, from where 493 kg of black raisins were seized. These are valued at Rs 2.46 lakh.

According to the FDA, alleged labelling lapses were found in all these products, and there is also a possibility that the prescribed quality standards were not followed. The department is now taking further action in accordance with food safety rules.

The administration has directed food business operators to comply with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and the rules framed under it. Operators must ensure that food items are stored in clean and safe premises. All necessary requirements on licensing, registration and labelling must also be met.

The FDA has warned that strict action will be taken against establishments found selling substandard or adulterated food items, or items that are wrongly labelled.
