The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast hot and humid weather at some places in Mumbai and surrounding areas. A yellow alert has also been issued.

The district-wise forecast was given in the weather bulletin issued on Thursday afternoon and is valid for October 22 to 26, 2026. In the early days of the forecast period, Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad will experience sultry conditions.

The forecast was issued by the IMD's regional centre at Colaba. According to it, light rain and showers with thunder are likely in the Konkan region and in Kolhapur district on certain days.

The weather will remain dry across most of Maharashtra, including Nashik, Pune, Jalgaon, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and many districts of Vidarbha. The bulletin carries no active warning for these areas.

Showers with thunder are likely in the Konkan. In the early part of the forecast period, Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad will be sultry in places, while Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg may get light rain or showers with thunder in the afternoon and evening on certain days.

Kolhapur and its ghat areas may also see light to moderate rain or showers with thunder at the start of the forecast period. The weather is expected to turn mainly dry across the state towards the end of the week.

The IMD has also listed the risks that may arise wherever heavy rain, gusty winds and lightning occur. Waterlogging is possible in low-lying and urban areas. Water flowing over roads and bridges may obstruct traffic.

Road, rail and air services may be disrupted for a time, power may go out in some places, and cloud-to-ground lightning is among the possible impacts. Winds of 30 to 40 kmph can uproot weak trees. Kutcha houses and poorly maintained structures such as walls may also be damaged. Unseasonal rain and waterlogging may affect standing crops, horticulture and orchards.

The IMD has advised citizens to check traffic conditions before setting out and to follow local traffic advisories. During thunder, people should not stay in open fields or shelter under tall trees. They should keep away from unsafe structures. If it is safe to do so, electrical and electronic appliances should be unplugged, and people should stay away from water bodies and objects that conduct electricity. Residents of areas where thunder or gusty winds are likely should keep track of local weather updates.

Advisories have also been issued for farmers. Ready crops should be harvested at once, and produce should be stored in a safe, covered place to protect it from moisture. Young fruit saplings and vegetable crops should be given support to prevent wind damage.

Proper drainage should be maintained so that excess rainwater collected in fields can drain away. Irrigation and spraying should be avoided in adverse weather. Livestock should be kept tied safely in sheds while lightning is flashing, the advisory added.
