Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told the department to track vehicles, drivers, duty hours and trip allocation on aggregator platforms, citing passenger safety and fairness for independent drivers.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday directed the Transport Department to develop an advanced digital platform based on artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor app-based passenger transport services. The platform should monitor vehicles, drivers, their working hours and the allocation of trips.

Fadnavis was speaking at a high-level meeting called to review the Maharashtra Aggregator Rules 2026. With the number of vehicles run by aggregator companies rising steadily, he stressed the need to ensure passenger safety, transparency in trip allocation and protection of the interests of independent taxi drivers.

The Chief Minister said the proposed platform should hold an updated digital record of every vehicle of aggregator companies. It should also record parking locations of the vehicles, driver details, driving licences, police verification and other necessary documents.

Fadnavis also said the algorithms on which app-based transport platforms run should be examined. The aim is that independent taxi drivers and vehicles of large fleet companies get an equal chance of receiving trips.

In this connection, Fadnavis said, "The platform should be able to check on what basis and for what reason a particular vehicle was given a trip. Technology should be used to catch any discrimination in this process."

The Chief Minister further said, "It should also record which driver is driving which vehicle in different shifts, so that officials can immediately see the details if an incident occurs. AI-based analysis should be used to monitor vehicle operations, driver shifts and other important aspects, so that officials can catch violations and take action in time."

In sum, the Chief Minister has asked the Transport Department to build a platform that holds a complete digital record of vehicles and drivers, lets the reasons behind trip allocation be examined, and uses AI to monitor driver shifts and vehicle operations.
