CIDCO has cut water supply by 15 per cent in all nodes under its jurisdiction, citing fears of a shortage in the coming months.

The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has imposed a 15 per cent cut in water supply in all nodes under its jurisdiction in Navi Mumbai from Monday, November 2. CIDCO says a water shortage is possible in the coming months, and the decision has been taken in view of that apprehension.

Under the cut, supply will be shut for 24 hours once a week in different nodes. In some areas, water will be supplied on alternate days. The restrictions will continue until further notice.

In an official statement, CIDCO said the step follows a Government Resolution (GR) issued by the Maharashtra government on October 5, 2026. The GR asked officials to use the available water judiciously and to safeguard the drinking water supply until August 31, 2027.

The government gave the direction because rainfall was lower last year owing to the effect of El Niño, and water shortages had to be faced even during the monsoon. With a similar situation likely to recur, CIDCO has begun measures to narrow the gap between water demand and availability and to conserve the existing reserves.

According to CIDCO's proposed schedule, the 24-hour shutdowns will fall on different days. On Monday, water will be shut off in Kharghar and New Panvel (East). On Tuesday, supply will be shut in Ulwe sectors 2, 3, 5, 6, 19, 20, 21, 23, 24 and 25A, including Gavhan, Kopar and Morave, as well as in New Panvel (West).

Supply will be shut in Kalamboli on Wednesday, in Karanjade on Thursday, and in Taloja, Kalundre and Kamothe on Friday.

Ulwe sectors 8, 9, 10B, 15C, 16, 17 and 18, which include Shelghar, Bamandongri, Nhava, Shivajinagar and Nhava Khadi, will get water on alternate days. Residents of Dronagiri sectors 1, 2, 11, 12, 15, 30, 47, 48, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54 and 55, including Dhutum, Bhendkhal, Pagote, Funde, Navghar, Navghar Pada, Bokadvira and Kunde, will likewise get water on alternate days.

In view of the water crisis, CIDCO has appealed to people to use drinking water carefully and restrict it to essential needs. It has said clearly that drinking water must not be used to wash vehicles or fill swimming pools, and that punitive action will be taken against those who do so.

People have also been asked not to let rooftop tanks and other water tanks overflow, and to have dripping taps and leaking pipelines repaired immediately. CIDCO says proper management of the available water and responsible consumption are necessary to reduce the risk of a shortage in the coming months.
