Priyatai Shinde said village development is measured by the health of every citizen, at a workshop organised by the health department at Vaduj Panchayat Samiti in Khatav.

A one-day workshop on the theme "Mera Gaon, Swasth Gaon" was organised by the health department at the Vaduj Panchayat Samiti in Khatav. Zilla Parishad president Priyatai Shinde inaugurated it by lighting the traditional lamp.

Shinde said "Mera Gaon, Swasth Gaon" is not merely an idea. In her words, it is an important movement to build a healthy, clean and prosperous society. "The real development of a village is not limited to roads, water and buildings. Good health of every citizen of the village is the true mark of development," she said.

Shinde said it was essential to give priority in every village to cleanliness, safe drinking water, balanced diet, regular health check-ups, the health of mothers and children, vaccination, and awareness about infectious diseases. She added that the dream of a healthy village can be fulfilled only through the shared participation of the gram panchayat, the health department, the women and child development department, schools, anganwadis and villagers.

Expressing the hope that through the campaign every village would become aware of health and adopt cleanliness and good habits, Shinde said every child should be healthy, every mother safe, every family well and every village free of disease. She appealed to everyone to take an active part in the campaign.

Panchayat Samiti chairperson Vanita Dubale, deputy chairperson Reshma Shedge and Panchayat Samiti members also spoke at the event. Manoj Deshmukh, Panchayat Samiti member from the Siddheshwar-Kuroli ward, said the health-related difficulties and problems of every village in the taluka should be brought to the notice of the Panchayat Samiti members of the area concerned.

Deshmukh also suggested that when a meeting is held in a village under the "Mera Gaon, Swasth Gaon" programme, the Panchayat Samiti members concerned should be invited. He assured that all Panchayat Samiti members are committed to removing health-related problems and other obstacles in villages and will always keep trying to resolve citizens' problems.

Block Development Officer Yogesh Kadam addressed those present. He gave important information and advice on taking proper care of health in daily life.

Dr Sunil Chavan, additional district health officer of the Satara Zilla Parishad, also addressed the gathering. He said all departments would have to work in coordination to build a healthy village.

Zilla Parishad member Manisha Phadtare was present at the workshop, along with Panchayat Samiti members Shashikant Roman, Hanumant Bote, Mahesh Wagh, Manoj Deshmukh and Anitatai Koli.
