Youth stabbed in Ballarpur's Shantinagar over suspected love affair, three held, one at large

A 20-year-old man was attacked with a knife in the Shantinagar area of Ballarpur this afternoon, causing panic in the neighbourhood. Initial information suggests the attack was carried out over suspicion of a love affair.

The injured man is Roshan Ranjan Bhond, 20, who lives behind the Rural Hospital in Shantinagar, Ballarpur. He suffered deep knife wounds to the stomach. The incident took place at around 1 pm today.

According to preliminary information, the accused had tried to persuade Roshan two days ago over the suspected love affair, but Roshan did not listen. It is alleged that in anger over this, two to three people together attacked Roshan with a sharp knife today.

Roshan, seriously injured, was immediately admitted to the Rural Hospital, Ballarpur. His condition was critical, so after initial treatment he was referred to the District General Hospital, Chandrapur. It is learned that he was sent on from Chandrapur to Nagpur without delay for better treatment.

On receiving news of the incident, a team from Ballarpur police station reached the spot at once and inspected the scene. Police then stepped up the investigation and have arrested three accused. One accused is still absconding, and police are searching for him.

Tension prevailed in Shantinagar for some time after the incident. Following swift police action, the situation there is now under control. The search for the absconding accused continues, and his arrest is yet to be made.
