Nagpur: A young man snatched the ticket machine from a woman conductor on the Nagpur Municipal Corporation's Aapli Bus and fled, with Rs 4 of change still owed to him. The incident, which took place in the open on Katol Road near Narmada Colony in the Gittikhadan police station area, caused alarm.
According to information, Sneha Khirdkar is a conductor on the Aapli Bus. On the afternoon of October 21, she was on duty on bus number MH/40/DC/0464, which was travelling from Brahmani Phata towards Sitabuldi. A man of about 25 boarded the bus at New Katol Naka Chowk. He gave Rs 20 for a ticket that cost Rs 16. After issuing the ticket, the conductor said she would return the Rs 4 change shortly.
The bus stopped near Narmada Colony and passengers began to alight. In the confusion, the man snatched the ticket-issuing machine from the conductor's hand and ran off. Before Khirdkar could raise an alarm, the accused had gone a long way off.
The incident, targeting a woman conductor on a bus full of passengers, has raised questions about security on buses. After the incident, Khirdkar went to Gittikhadan police station and lodged a complaint. Police have registered a case of robbery and begun an investigation. They are now trying to identify and arrest the accused.
Such incidents involving employees on duty in the corporation's public bus service are a cause for concern.
