Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that Bhadohi district will be renamed "Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi". He made the announcement at an event in Bhadohi.

At the event, Adityanath said Bhadohi district would now be known as "Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi". The decision to link Sant Ravidas's name with the district had already been made public.

The Chief Minister said, "On the occasion of Guru Purnima, the government had said that Bhadohi district would be known by the name of Sant Ravidas. Sant Ravidas was a medieval saint, and he worked to unite society through spiritual devotion."

At the same event, Adityanath inaugurated and performed the foundation-stone laying of 112 development projects costing more than Rs 1,340 crore. The renaming was announced along with these projects.

Bhadohi is known across the country for its famous carpet industry. It is called the "Carpet City" and is a major centre of the hand-knotted carpet industry.

The district's name has been changed before. According to available information, it was named "Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi" in 1999, and renamed "Bhadohi" again in 2014. Now, in 2026, the name "Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi" has been announced once more.

Earlier, MP Ravi Kishan had made a strong statement on the state's development, comparing Uttar Pradesh to Spain.

Adityanath is known across the country for his stance on renaming places. People from the state are travelling to different parts of the country in search of work, and the emphasis on renaming has drawn considerable anger on social media. Even so, development projects in Uttar Pradesh also appear to have increased significantly.

Places renamed under the Yogi government include Allahabad to Prayagraj, Faizabad to Ayodhya, Mughalsarai to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Nagar, and Mughalsarai railway station to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Junction. The Mughal Museum in Agra was named the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum, Akbarpur bus stand became Shravan Dham bus stand, and Jalalabad was named Parshurampuri. Bhadohi's change to Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi has now been added to this list.
