Yashomati Thakur hits back at Bawankule over remarks on Rahul Gandhi, issues warning
Congress leader Yashomati Thakur warned Maharashtra minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule after he said Rahul Gandhi should be admitted to a mental hospital in Nagpur.
A statement by Revenue Minister and Amravati guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule about Rahul Gandhi has stirred up state politics again. Congress leader and former minister, advocate Yashomati Thakur, hit back sharply and issued a direct warning to Bawankule. Thakur said, "Mr Bawankule, watch your tongue. If you use this kind of language again, you will have to answer to genuine Congress workers."
Speaking to the media, Chandrashekhar Bawankule had made an extremely low-level personal remark about Rahul Gandhi. Bawankule had said that Rahul Gandhi has gone senile, that he has lost his mental faculties, and that he needs to be admitted to a mental hospital in Nagpur. He had also said that criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi is like showing a lamp to the sun, and that the country has rejected Rahul Gandhi.
Responding to Bawankule's remark, advocate Yashomati Thakur said, "Chandrashekhar Bawankule is a serious political leader, and one expected him to fight this battle on ideological grounds, but he has gone straight to the personal level. Rahul Gandhi is the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and represents the Gandhi-Nehru family, which made the supreme sacrifice for the country. Bawankule does not have the political stature to make such personal remarks about him."
Thakur also targeted the government. She said that on rising unemployment, corruption and the people's basic questions, the ruling side has nothing to say. According to her, the "Chhatron Ki Baat" programme held in Pune and Rahul Gandhi's programme in Indore have irked their opponents, who could not tolerate it, and this is why they are flinging this kind of personal mud.
Thakur also raised questions about the guardian minister's public grievance forum. She said that at the recent forum, around two thousand citizens turned up with their complaints, which shows how angry and dissatisfied the public is with the government. She said farmers' fields have no electricity supply, crop losses are rising due to wild animal menace, but the government is paying no attention to these serious issues.
Concluding, advocate Thakur warned, "You are the guardian minister of the district and a minister responsible to the state, maintain the dignity of your post. Stop making statements that cross the line of decorum, or Congress workers will not stay silent, and you will get an answer in kind."
