Yamaha Tenere 900 buzz builds ahead of EICMA 2026, India launch still unclear
Yamaha's teasers hint at a new adventure motorcycle debuting at EICMA 2026, but its India plans remain unconfirmed.
Yamaha has hinted at bringing something big to EICMA 2026, putting the Tenere 900 back in the spotlight. The company has not officially named the model yet, but three distinct beats heard in its teaser have fuelled speculation that it could feature a 3-cylinder engine. This has led to expectations that the new adventure bike could make its global debut at the Milan motorcycle show in November.
The news is also significant from an India perspective. Yamaha India chairman Hajime Aota has said the company is studying options for bringing new motorcycles in the 250cc to 1000cc segment. However, he has not named any specific model or launch date so far. It cannot be said with certainty at this stage whether the Tenere 900 will come to India at all.
The Tenere 900 is expected to be a higher-capacity adventure motorcycle than the Tenere 700. Motorcycles of this kind, meant for long-distance touring, poor roads and off-road use, are typically expected to have a bigger engine, longer-travel suspension, a strong chassis and electronic rider aids. However, Yamaha has not yet clarified what features the Tenere 900 will actually get.
The Tenere 700 has already been showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January 2025. It gets a 689cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine producing around 72 bhp and 68 Nm of torque. Features such as ride-by-wire, riding modes and a rally-style TFT display, paired with a 6-speed gearbox, enhance its off-road performance. However, there is no clarity yet on its India launch either.
If the Tenere 900 is unveiled, it could strengthen Yamaha's presence in the higher-capacity adventure motorcycle segment. This category already has models such as the Suzuki V-Strom 800DE, Triumph Tiger 900 GT, BMW F 900 GS and KTM 890 Adventure R. Localising production of bigger bikes in India could help keep prices in check, but no official information is available yet on production or import plans for the Tenere 900.
For now, nothing has been officially confirmed about the Tenere 900's engine capacity, power, torque, features, price or India launch date. It will be interesting to see which model Yamaha actually unveils at EICMA 2026 and what strategy it then decides on for India. Customers and riders are watching Yamaha's next move closely, especially given the growing demand for premium motorcycles.
