Yamaha's new fully-faired sportsbike R2, launched on August 27, has started reaching Blue Square dealerships across India
Yamaha's new fully-faired sportsbike, the R2, is close to reaching customers in India. The bike was launched in the Indian market on August 27, 2026, and is now arriving at Yamaha's Blue Square dealerships across the country. With the bike reaching dealerships nationwide, the wait for customers is nearing its end. The company is likely to begin an official handover programme in the coming days, under which customers who have already booked the bike will formally receive their units.
The R2 is available in three variants. The base variant is priced at Rs 2,30,500, the quick shifter variant at Rs 2,39,500, and the top variant, the R2M, at Rs 2,53,000. On colours, the base model comes in Metallic Black and Dark Bluish Grey. The mid variant offers Matte White Pearl and Racing Blue, while the top variant R2M is available in Metallic Grey. This gives customers different colour options across all three variants to choose from based on budget and preference.
In terms of design, the R2 clearly reflects the styling of Yamaha's flagship bike, the R1. The front gets a compact bi-functional LED headlight along with dual LED position lights. The sculpted fairing and tight bodywork give the bike an aggressive sportsbike look. The design also carries an influence from Yamaha's R9 model, bringing the legacy of Yamaha's two larger models into the R2's styling.
The R2 also comes loaded with technology. The bike gets 17-inch alloy wheels, a traction control system, and an assist and slipper clutch. Under Yamaha Ride Control, three ride modes -- Street, Sport and Rain -- are offered, allowing the rider to pick the suitable mode for different road and weather conditions. It also features a 5-inch full-colour TFT display, a smart key, 37mm USD front forks and dual-channel ABS. The mid and top variants also get a bi-directional quick shifter.
On the engine, the Yamaha R2 is powered by a 204cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine that produces 26.1 bhp of power and 19.1 Nm of torque. The bike's kerb weight is just 149 kg, making it one of the lighter motorcycles in its segment, and this light weight is drawing customer attention. In the Indian market, the R2 will compete with the KTM RC 200 and the Hero Karizma XMR 210.
