Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu studied architecture and management at MIT, served in an elite army commando unit and worked as a diplomat before politics.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is counted among the most talked-about leaders in the world. The conflict in Gaza, tensions with Iran and Israel's policies keep him in the headlines. Alongside his politics and decisions, people are also curious about his personal life and education.

Netanyahu did his early schooling in Jerusalem. He completed high school at Cheltenham High School in Pennsylvania in the United States. For further studies he enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), one of the world's best-known educational institutions.

He earned a bachelor's degree in architecture, the discipline concerned with the design and construction of buildings. He then completed further studies in management at MIT itself. While at MIT, he also studied subjects related to political science.

Netanyahu had pursued advanced studies in political science at MIT and Harvard University. He had also completed the research and coursework for a PhD in the subject. But after the death of his elder brother Jonathan in 1976, he abandoned his studies and returned to Israel. As a result, his PhD could not be completed.

Before entering politics, Netanyahu served in the Israeli army. He served in the army's elite commando unit, Sayeret Matkal. During this time he took part in several military operations. The experience in the army had a major influence on his life and later career.

After his military service he also worked at the international level. He played an important role in Israel's diplomatic mission in the United States and later served as Israel's ambassador to the United Nations.

Netanyahu first became Israel's prime minister in 1996. He took the office again in 2009 and led the government for a long period. In December 2022 he once more took charge as prime minister. His name is among those of the longest-serving prime ministers of Israel.
