Wardha police seize large cache of foreign liquor during Ganesh immersion, arrest three

Acting on a tip-off, Wardha police intercepted a liquor consignment near a travel agency during Ganesh idol immersion and arrested three accused.

The office of the sub-divisional police officer, Wardha, received a tip-off on September 21, 2026, that a man named Sagar Maurya, a resident of Ganeshnagar, Wardha, was arriving with his associates from Nagpur district carrying a large consignment of foreign liquor and beer, to be delivered near a travel point close to Vasant Talkies.

Acting on the information, police staff and panch witnesses laid a trap at Bacchraj Jain Travels Point, Wardha, while waiting for the supply to arrive. During this, two persons were taken into custody. They were identified as 29 year old Sagar Rajendra Maurya, originally from Bhagwan Nagar, Nagpur, currently residing at Ganesh Nagar, Borgaon Meghe, Wardha, and 26 year old Abhinav Narendra Sahare, a resident of the area near Bade Kuye, Stationfail tehsil, Wardha.

A search of two large bags and two cloth sacks found with the two men turned up a large quantity of foreign liquor. This included 36 filled 180 ml bottles of Officer's Choice, 60 sealed 180 ml bottles of Officer's Choice Blue, 25 sealed 180 ml bottles of Magic Moments Jamun, 70 sealed 180 ml bottles of Royal Stag, 10 sealed 180 ml bottles of Sahyadri Gold, 24 bottles of 180 ml Grand Master Milan, 7 bottles of 180 ml Master Di Light and 5 sealed 180 ml bottles of Royal Challenge. Also seized were 24 sealed 500 ml tin cans of Kasberg, 42 sealed 500 ml cans of Tuborg and 18 sealed 500 ml cans of Budweiser. The total value of the seized liquor was put at one lakh twenty thousand one hundred rupees, and it was confiscated as illegally held stock as per the panchnama.

During questioning, the accused told police they had purchased the foreign liquor from the manager of Ratul Wine Shop in Sitabardi, Nagpur. A case was subsequently registered against all three accused at Wardha City police station under sections 65(E), 77(A) and 83 of MADAKA. Further investigation is being carried out by Wardha City police station.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Saurabh Kumar Agrawal and Additional Superintendent of Police Sadashiv Waghmare, Wardha, and led by sub-divisional police officer Sunil Mahadik, Wardha. The operation involved police sub-inspector Parvez Khan along with police staff Gajanan Lamse, Sanjay Boga, Arvind Ghuge, Pawan Nilekar, Sameer Shaikh and Ravikiran Moon.
