Vivek Agnihotri objects to Pallavi Joshi being identified only as his wife
After Pallavi Joshi's appointment to the CBFC board, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri objected to reports identifying her only as his wife, not by her own career.

Actress and producer Pallavi Joshi has been appointed to the new 18-member board of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The central government announced the new board on September 16. Along with Pallavi Joshi, the board includes several other names from the entertainment industry, including Preity Zinta, Pankaj Tripathi, Suniel Shetty and Rupali Ganguly.

After news of the appointment broke, one report introduced Pallavi Joshi as \"filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri's wife\". Reading this description, her husband, director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, expressed his displeasure on social media. Vivek asked why, despite Pallavi Joshi having such a long and substantial career of her own, she was introduced only through her relationship with her husband.

In his post, Vivek Agnihotri directly criticised how the report had framed things. Citing her work in acting, television, cinema and production, he emphasised Pallavi Joshi's independent career. He noted that Pallavi Joshi had started acting at a young age and, over the course of her long career, had worked in production as well as acting. He asked why a successful woman's identity is so often reduced only to her relationship with her husband.

Vivek Agnihotri also mentioned Pallavi Joshi's production work in his post, citing the project 'Aarohan' as an example. Referring to the making of this project, based on women in the Indian Navy, he recalled her independent work. Throughout the post, Vivek Agnihotri expressed strong displeasure at the framing. In his view, Pallavi Joshi's identity should have come from her own work and achievements.

Meanwhile, the newly constituted CBFC board's term will run for three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Besides Pallavi Joshi, the 18-member board includes Preity Zinta, Pankaj Tripathi, Suniel Shetty, Rupali Ganguly, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Priyadarshan, Ricky Kej and others.

In the discussion that began over how Pallavi Joshi was introduced, Vivek Agnihotri has argued that her professional career and independent identity deserve more importance than her personal relationship.
