The use of technology and machines has grown in every sector, making work faster and easier. Farming is no exception, and the use of a wide range of machines has helped agriculture develop. In today's era of high prices, however, these machines are not affordable for everyone.
The government has therefore started several schemes to make these machines available at affordable prices. It is giving subsidies so that the use of machines in farming rises, farming becomes easier and farmers' expenses fall.
Under the online booking process that began in October 2026, farmers can apply for farm equipment such as tractors, power tillers, rotavators and seed drills. Farmers who are eligible under the scheme can get a subsidy of 40 to 50 per cent, according to the scheme's rules.
Under the schemes run by the Agriculture Department, subsidy will be given for 2,166 farm implements. In addition, under the scheme to promote agricultural mechanisation for managing crop residue in the field itself, subsidy will be given for 1,755 farm implements. Subsidy is also available for setting up custom hiring centres and farm machinery banks.
Under the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanisation (SMAM) scheme, farmers can apply online for farm equipment subsidy on the Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Department's portal between October 7 and October 20, 2026. Eligible farmers under the scheme can get a subsidy of 40 to 50 per cent on tractors, power tillers and other farm equipment.
For example, a farmer who gets a 50 per cent subsidy on a tractor costing Rs 10 lakh will have to pay only Rs 5. However, the actual subsidy amount will depend on the scheme's rules, the farmer's category and the maximum limit fixed.
In some categories, the maximum subsidy can range from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh. The subsidy on rotavators, seed drills and other smaller implements will be decided according to their government-approved prices. Farmers must therefore check the subsidy rate, maximum limit and eligibility for the equipment on the official portal before applying.
To avail of the scheme, first visit the website upagriculture.com. Go to the section for machinery or equipment subsidy or token booking and select the farm machine of your choice. After the token is confirmed, buy the equipment from an authorised dealer and keep the original bill safe. Then upload the bill and other required documents on the portal. After verification, the subsidy amount is sent directly to your bank account through DBT.
