Two youths killed as bike hits barricade on Mul-Gadchiroli highway near Akapur
Two men on a motorcycle died on the spot on Thursday night after it rammed an iron barricade at a curve near Akapur village on the Mul-Gadchiroli highway.
Two young men were killed in a road accident at a curve near Akapur village on the Mul-Gadchiroli highway on Thursday night. Their motorcycle rammed an iron barricade, and both riders died on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as Mohit Madhukar Chaudhari, 32, a resident of Navegaon Chak, and Ganesh Raju Yesansure, 31, a resident of Sindewahi.
According to the information available, the two were travelling from Mul towards Saoli on their motorcycle (registration MH-34-BY-7678) at around 9 pm. On reaching the curve near Akapur, the rider, who was going at high speed, suddenly lost control. The motorcycle crashed hard into an iron barricade at the roadside. The impact was so severe that the barricade fell over. Both men died at the scene.
It is said that the two had safely passed the first four barricades on the Mul side. They then hit the barricade on the Akapur side as they went on through the curve. It is therefore being surmised that the motorcycle was being driven at very high speed and that the accident happened because control was lost on the curve.
The curve near Akapur is considered very dangerous and accident-prone. Several minor and major accidents have occurred here earlier, and some people have lost their lives. To prevent accidents, the police administration had put up iron barricades on both sides of the curve. Accidents had stopped completely here after the barricades were installed. Thursday night's incident has once again cast a pall of mourning over the area.
People in the surrounding area are grieving at the news of the deaths of two young men in this manner. As accidents used to happen at the curve earlier, the incident has reminded people of those days.
