Two young men found dead in Goregaon public toilet, chemical gas suspected
Two men died in a public toilet near Goregaon's Ram Mandir, with police suspecting fumes from a nearby electroplating unit.
Two young men died in a public toilet near the Ram Mandir premises in Mumbai's Goregaon area. The incident is reported to have occurred around 8.30 am in a toilet near the Mrinal Gore Udan Pul (skywalk). It is suspected that the two died due to some chemical gas.
The deceased have been identified as Prabhakar Dhanivar (24) and Bhavin Desai (18). Both were taken to Goregaon's Traumacare Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
According to information, there is a chemical factory right next to the toilet, where acid and other chemical substances are used. It is believed that gas from the factory accumulated in the toilet, causing the two young men to suffocate to death.
As soon as news of the incident spread, teams from the fire brigade, police, ambulance services, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reached the spot and began an investigation. Police are investigating the exact cause of death and which chemical substance reached the toilet.
According to police, there is a drainage line next to the toilet, adjoining a small electroplating factory. Police said the two boys may have died of suffocation from the smell of this chemical.
Anger spread among local residents after the incident. People demanded justice for the two young men and warned that they would launch a protest if justice was not delivered. Local residents questioned how a chemical company was being run in an area where people live, saying around 60 families reside in the locality and that the administration should take action against the chemical company.
Local representative Ravindra Waikar also reached the spot and said clearly that strict action should be taken against those responsible.
