Navi Mumbai Police's anti-narcotics cell arrested two Nigerian nationals in Thane district and recovered mephedrone and cocaine worth about Rs 2.2 crore.
Navi Mumbai Police have taken major action against drug trafficking. The police's anti-narcotics cell raided the Diva-Mumbra area of Thane district and arrested two Nigerian nationals. Police said drugs such as mephedrone and cocaine, with a total value of about Rs 2.2 crore, were seized in the operation.
According to the police, the action took place on Wednesday. The Navi Mumbai Police anti-narcotics cell carried out the raid in Diva-Mumbra with the help of the Mumbra police. A drugs case is registered at the Taloja police station in Navi Mumbai. During its investigation, police received crucial information, after which the action was carried out following detailed planning.
More than two dozen police personnel were part of the operation. The suspects were kept under watch, and a large quantity of drugs was then recovered from them. The case has once again brought the issue of drug trafficking in the Thane and Navi Mumbai area into focus.
The two Nigerian nationals arrested are Akuba Kenneth (45) and Sunday Eze (47). The details of the action were shared by Sandeep Nigade, senior police inspector of the Navi Mumbai Police anti-narcotics cell.
The seized material includes more than 2 kg of mephedrone and 316.5 grams of cocaine. Police also took six mobile phones from the accused. The information on the phones could be used to examine contacts, transactions and a possible network linked to the drug supply. However, police have not yet given any official account of what information the phones have actually yielded.
Mephedrone and cocaine are banned drugs. Their illegal sale and trafficking are serious offences in the eyes of the law.
According to police, a total of nine people have so far been arrested in this Navi Mumbai drugs case. Officials clarified that five of them are African nationals.
Police are now trying to establish where the drugs were being brought from, to whom they were to be supplied, and whether anyone else is involved in the transactions. The investigation into the stock of the seized material, its possible supply and others linked to the case continues. The information from the mobile phones and other evidence is expected to give direction to the probe. Attention is on whether more accused or fresh details of the trafficking network emerge. The seizure of drugs worth Rs 2.2 crore is being seen as an important action for Navi Mumbai Police.
