A Scorpio rammed three two-wheelers on the Ahilyanagar-Jamkhed highway near Nimbodi village, in front of Hotel Utsav. Two people died on the spot and one person is seriously injured.
The dead are Rohidas Kadbhane and Bappu Pawar. Kadbhane was a retired soldier. The injured man, Mayur Shirke, has been admitted to hospital for treatment. After the accident, the Scorpio driver abandoned the vehicle at the spot and fled.
According to preliminary information, the Scorpio was travelling from Ahilyanagar towards Jamkhed. Near Nimbodi, it collided with three two-wheelers coming from the opposite direction. The impact was so severe that the bikes were dragged about 50 to 100 feet. Two people suffered such serious injuries that they died on the spot.
As news of the accident spread, people from nearby rushed to the spot and took the injured man to hospital.
Preliminary information is that a tyre of the Scorpio burst, causing the driver to lose control. However, the actual cause of the accident is not yet clear.
On receiving information, Camp police reached the spot and drew up a panchnama. The vehicles involved have been seized. Police have begun an investigation and are searching for the absconding driver.
