Two players of Gurukul Vidyalaya, Koli-Karanja, Ajit Chavan and Om Ber, have been selected for the Maharashtra state team for the national school handball tournament. Ajit is captain of their team and Om is vice-captain. Both earned the opportunity on the strength of their notable performances. Gurukul Vidyalaya, Karanja, also finished fourth in the state-level handball event.

The selection followed the state-level school handball tournament, played from October 1 to 5 at the taluka sports complex in Karanja Lad. It was organised jointly by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Services, Maharashtra State, Pune, the district sports officer's office and the Hauashi Handball Association. The tournament was for boys in the under-10 age group.

The Gurukul Vidyalaya team represented the Amravati division. It played strongly and finished fourth. The school's players showed excellent teamwork, determination and skill, and raised the name of the Amravati division at the state level. Notably, team captain Ajit Chavan and vice-captain Om Ber were both selected for the Maharashtra team on the basis of their outstanding performances.

District sports officer Sachin Chavan, sports officers Kishor Bonde and Maruti Sonkamble, and Karanja taluka sports officer Mangala Shende praised the players. Handball association president Devavrat Dahake, secretary Shubham Chavan, taluka convener Parag Gulhane and Swarajya Sports Academy president Sankit Deshmukh also appreciated the school's players and mentors. The chance to represent Maharashtra at the national level has been described as a matter of pride for the school.

Ajit and Om are receiving congratulations from all sides after the double success. Credit for the achievement was given to the players' parents, headmaster Amol Raut, director Megha Raut, the non-teaching staff and sports teacher Sunny Kale.
