The birth and death registration department of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will now work 24x7. Municipal Commissioner Dr Vipin Itankar held a review meeting on the department's functioning and the problems citizens face in getting its services, and directed that the work be carried out in three shifts.
The meeting discussed technical issues related to the CRS portal, work on birth and death records from before 2016, pending cases, and the staff and facilities required. The commissioner gave the department appropriate guidelines on all these matters. He also sought information from the officials concerned on the difficulties citizens face in getting births and deaths registered and receiving the related certificates on time.
To clear the pending work in the department and reduce the burden on staff, the commissioner asked that additional staff be provided as required. He also directed that the 24x7 work be run in three shifts. Accordingly, staff will be assigned duty in morning, afternoon and night shifts, and the pending birth and death registration work will be completed quickly.
The commissioner said the staff available in this NMC department should be used properly so that registration work is completed on time. If necessary, staff should be deployed in the night shift as well to dispose of pending cases.
This will reduce the burden of pending work, and the necessary work can be done easily from a single User ID. Directions have also been given to plan for this.
The commissioner further instructed that the department coordinate with the concerned system to resolve its technical problems. Pending cases should be reviewed regularly, and care should be taken that there is no unnecessary delay in serving citizens.
Additional Commissioner Ankit, Additional Commissioner Muruganantham, and Dr Govardhan Navkhare, medical officer and deputy registrar (births and deaths), were present at the meeting. Dr Revati Sable, District Maternal and Child Health Officer of Zilla Parishad Nagpur, and statistics officer Priyanka Pawar also attended. All birth and death staff of the corporation and zonal officers were also present.
