Warora police foiled an attempt to smuggle a large consignment of ganja from Nagpur to Warora, setting up a checkpoint at Anandvan Chowk. Acting on a tip-off, police stopped two men travelling on a two-wheeler and checked their bag in front of panchas, recovering around 4 kg 174 grams of ganja. Along with the ganja, the two-wheeler and a mobile phone, police seized goods worth a total of Rs 3 lakh 29 thousand 200 and arrested both accused on the spot.

The operation was part of a special drive launched by police to curb the growing trade in narcotics in Warora town and surrounding villages. Under this drive, the two men, who were bringing ganja from Nagpur on a motorcycle to sell in Warora, were caught red-handed at Anandvan Chowk under the supervision of senior police officers. Around 4 kg 174 grams of ganja, the motorcycle and a mobile phone were recovered from the accused, together worth Rs 3 lakh 29 thousand 200.

On September 18, Warora police received reliable information from an informer that two men would be bringing a large quantity of ganja from Nagpur on a two-wheeler to sell in Warora. Acting on this tip-off, police immediately set up a checkpoint at Anandvan Chowk. Shortly after, a suspicious two-wheeler was seen approaching the chowk, and the waiting team stopped the vehicle. In front of panchas, police thoroughly searched a khaki-coloured bag carried by the accused under the NDPS Act and found ganja concealed inside it.

In the operation, police seized about 4 kg 174 grams of ganja worth Rs 2 lakh 8 thousand 700, an old motorcycle worth Rs 1 lakh used for the smuggling, an Oppo mobile phone worth Rs 20,000, and the bag worth Rs 500, taking the total value of the seizure to Rs 3 lakh 29 thousand 200. Police arrested Rizwan Saleem Rangrez, 23, and Subhash Kalu Pawar, 39, both residents of Vadar Mohalla, Warora, at the spot.

A case has been registered against both accused at Warora police station under sections 8(a) and 20(b)(ii) of the NDPS Act. The operation was carried out by a team led by Warora police station's Police Inspector Omprakash Sontakke, Assistant Police Inspector Sharad Bhasme, Police Sub-Inspector Manish Talewar, and police staff Sandeep Mule, Prashant Nagose, Vishal Rajurkar, Manoj Thakre and Mahesh Gavature. The action has caused alarm among drug peddlers and smugglers in the area, and police are further investigating who else may be involved in the racket.
