Police action against the drug trade in Nagpur has stepped up again. The anti-narcotics squad has arrested two alleged drug peddlers from the Sakkardara police station area. MD powder weighing 52 grams and other items were recovered from them, with a total value estimated at Rs 2.68 lakh.
The action took place in the early hours of Tuesday. The squad stopped the suspects on the public road in front of Vishal Mega Mart at Bhandewadi Plot Chowk and recovered the contraband from them.
The arrested men have been named as Suraj Kathane and Harshal Abgad. According to police, a search allegedly yielded 52 grams of MD powder, three mobile phones and a two-wheeler from them. The entire seized property is valued at Rs 2.68 lakh.
During questioning, the suspects allegedly named three people who had supplied them the MD drug. Police are now looking for these suspected suppliers to establish where the drugs came from and how far the network extends.
The disclosure has given the investigation a new turn. Investigators are now focusing on identifying the supply chain behind the drug-selling operation. They are also examining whether the two accused were part of a larger narcotics network operating in the city.
A case has been registered at Sakkardara police station under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is under way.
