Panchpaoli police in Nagpur have arrested two employees of a transport company on the charge of opening sealed Flipkart parcels and stealing nine mobile phones and an expensive wristwatch. The stolen goods are valued at Rs 4.26 lakh.
The case relates to the office of Elastic Run, also called Antex Transportation Company, in Baba Buddhaji Nagar in the Panchpaoli area. Parcels arriving from Flipkart are sorted here and then sent out for delivery to customers.
The accused are Shoeb Afsar Hussain (28) and Nazir Shaikh (21). According to the police, both had been working as office boys at the company for about a month and a half.
The theft came to light on the night of October 24, when company officials found an empty mobile phone box. This made them suspicious. They checked the parcels and also reviewed recordings from the CCTV cameras installed inside the office.
During the inquiry, footage from October 13 showed Nazir Shaikh taking a mobile phone out of a sealed parcel. A further check revealed that nine mobile phones and a wristwatch were missing from the consignment. Together they were valued at Rs 4,26,000.
The company's area manager, Ayush Kohli, then filed a complaint with Panchpaoli police. On the basis of the complaint and the evidence gathered during the inquiry, police arrested Hussain and Shaikh.
Police are now investigating further. They want to establish the role each of the two accused played in the theft and where the stolen goods are. No information is available for now on the recovery of the phones and the watch.
