Two cousins die in road accident near Varora while returning after getting licences
An unidentified vehicle hit their motorcycle near Varora, killing both cousins from Bopapur; police have registered a case against the unknown driver.

A major road accident near Lagan Bar and the TVS showroom in Varora town killed two young men on the evening of Wednesday, September 23, 2026, between around 6:15 pm and 6:30 pm. The deceased were identified as Saurabh Ramesh Hiradeve (27) and his cousin Ajit Pandhari Hiradeve (30), both residents of Bopapur in Varora taluka.
The two cousins had come to Varora on their Yamaha FZ motorcycle (registration number MH-34-CA-1628) to get driving licences made. After finishing the work, they were returning to Bopapur on the bike in the evening. Near Lagan Bar, an unidentified vehicle travelling from Chandrapur towards Nagpur hit their motorcycle at high speed and recklessly.
Both cousins were seriously injured in the crash. They were rushed to the sub-district hospital in Varora for treatment. After examination, doctors declared Saurabh Hiradeve dead. Ajit Hiradeve's condition was critical, and he was being referred to the general hospital in Chandrapur for further treatment, but he died on the way near Bhadravati. His body was also kept in the mortuary of the sub-district hospital, Varora.
News of the deaths of two young men from the same village spread quickly, and family members rushed to the hospital, leaving the area in mourning.
A case has been registered at Varora police station based on the oral complaint of the victims' uncle, Nandkishor Rambhau Hiradeve (48), a resident of Bopapur-Tadala. Police have booked the unidentified driver under Sections 134 and 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act, along with Sections 106(1), 125(B) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation has been handed to Police Sub-Inspector Ashok Dhoke. Varora police are searching for the vehicle and the driver responsible for the accident, who fled the scene.
