The TVS Ntorq 150 is drawing attention from buyers of 125cc scooters looking to move up to a more powerful model. Knowing the price, EMI and overall cost of ownership matters, since deciding on the showroom price alone is not advisable.

The TVS Ntorq 150 is available in two variants. The STD variant has an ex-showroom price of Rs 1,12,300, while the TFT variant costs Rs 1,21,300, a difference of Rs 9,000 between the two. This is only the ex-showroom price. The actual on-road price adds RTO charges, insurance and other costs, so it is important to get a fresh, itemised quotation from a dealer in your city before buying.

On EMI: assuming an on-road price of Rs 1,32,000, with a 20 percent down payment of Rs 26,400, the remaining Rs 1,05,600 would need to be financed. At a 12 percent annual interest rate over 36 months, the monthly EMI works out to about Rs 3,507. Under this calculation the total repayment comes to around Rs 1,26,268, meaning about Rs 20,668 extra is paid in interest.

Changing the down payment amount affects the EMI. For instance, a down payment of Rs 13,200 brings the 36-month EMI to about Rs 3,946, while a down payment of Rs 52,800 lowers the EMI to about Rs 2,631. However, extending the loan tenure, even though it lowers the monthly instalment, can increase the total interest cost. So it is important to check the total repayment amount rather than just looking at a lower EMI.

Besides the EMI, daily running costs should also be factored in. Assuming about 900 km of travel a month, a mileage of 38 km per litre and petrol priced at Rs 100 per litre, the monthly fuel cost comes to about Rs 2,368. Combined, EMI and fuel add up to about Rs 5,876 a month. This does not include insurance, servicing, tyres, parking and other maintenance costs, which are separate.

So when buying the TVS Ntorq 150, the decision should not be based on the showroom price or monthly EMI alone. The down payment amount, interest rate, fuel cost and regular maintenance expenses should all be factored into an overall budget before making the purchase.
