Buyers of a commuter scooter are often told they must choose between practical and fun. After 4,000 km on the TVS Ntorq 150, that view appears to change somewhat.

Performance stands out most, after a further 1,000 km on the Ntorq 150. Overtaking in traffic does not require the throttle to be opened fully again and again. The scooter responds well, so pulling ahead quickly is easy. The sporty exhaust note adds to the fun of riding.

The riding modes suit different conditions. In heavy rain, poor visibility or on slippery roads, Street mode gives a more controlled feel. Power delivery is slightly reduced in this mode, which makes the scooter easier to handle in difficult conditions. However, the start-stop system in the same mode is a bit of a nuisance. The engine takes somewhat longer to restart when pulling away from a signal.

The mirrors and brakes are a mixed experience. The mirrors give a good view but stick out too far, which can be a hindrance when squeezing through tight gaps in traffic. The front disc brake performs well and the ABS does not intervene unnecessarily. The rear drum brake, though, needed adjustment roughly every 300 km.

The suspension also works well on bad roads. Despite being a sporty scooter, it copes well with potholes and broken roads. Its ability to handle rough roads seems better even than some family scooters. The under-seat storage is enough for everyday use, and the left-side switchgear makes the TFT display menu easy to use.

The external fuel filler saves time when refuelling. Overall, after 4,000 km it is clear that the TVS Ntorq 150 is not merely a sporty-looking scooter but a strong package for daily commuting. It has a few minor shortcomings, but it offers a good mix of performance, ride quality and practicality.
