Trump orders US government to say 'super intelligence' instead of AI in official use
President Donald Trump has signed an executive order directing federal agencies to use the term 'Super Intelligence' (SI) in place of 'Artificial Intelligence' (AI).
The United States has made a major administrative change concerning artificial intelligence (AI). President Donald Trump has signed an executive order directing the US government and all its federal agencies to officially use the term 'Super Intelligence' (SI) instead of 'Artificial Intelligence' (AI). Following the order, the term 'AI' will not be used at the administrative level in the US.
The order is titled 'Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence'. To the extent permitted by law, all government departments, ministries and central agencies must write and speak only of 'Super Intelligence' or 'SI' in their daily work, official papers, government websites, reports and communication with the public.
The new rule takes effect immediately, and all administrative policy documents will be changed accordingly. However, the full picture has not yet been made clear on whether the old term will be changed in previously issued rules, government agreements, grants already made or historical records.
Explaining the reason for the change, the Trump administration said that today's AI technology has moved far beyond the conventional definition and framework of 70 years ago. According to Trump, modern technological systems built by American developers and scientists no longer merely simulate human intelligence but are taking human creativity, novelty and capabilities to unprecedented heights. The administration therefore holds that calling the technology 'super' rather than 'artificial' has become a need of the times.
Under the order, the administration has given the President's science and technology assistants (APST) 60 days. In this period a draft will be prepared for submission to Congress, the US Parliament. It will set a new Federal Definition of 'Super Intelligence' and suggest the necessary amendments to existing laws.
Before issuing the order, Trump held an important meeting at the White House with the heads of leading American technology companies. Those present included Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, OpenAI, Nvidia, and Elon Musk, head of xAI and Tesla.
After the meeting, the administration announced the 'White House Accord on Super Intelligence'. The accord stresses developing super intelligence technology more safely and responsibly. Speaking at the meeting, Zuckerberg said it was very important to maintain public trust in this highly advanced technology. Amodei laid particular emphasis on the need for cooperation between the technology industry and the US government to ensure safety.
The US decision is being described as one that will give the world's technology sector a new direction. It will be important to watch whether other countries also adopt this new 'super' definition of AI.
