Traffic constable pulls passenger back from gap as he slips boarding moving train at Anantapur
A traffic police constable named Surendra pulled a man to safety just as he was about to fall between a moving train and the platform at Anantapur railway station.
A passenger had a narrow escape at Anantapur railway station in Andhra Pradesh when a traffic constable reached him in time and stopped him from falling between the train and the platform. The incident was recorded on CCTV, and the video is circulating widely on social media.
According to a post shared on social media, the incident took place on the 29th of last month. The passenger, a resident of the Bhairav Nagar area of Anantapur district, had tried to board a moving train.
The CCTV footage shows the train having started to move at the station, with a man running to climb aboard. The train had already begun moving and gathered speed within seconds. The man's foot slipped and he was dragged along the platform with the train.
Then came a moment when he was about to fall into the gap between the train and the platform. At that instant, a policeman who was present ran up and pulled him back. The post says the constable grabbed him by his shirt and dragged him away, saving his life. Onlookers were left shaken by the sight.
The traffic police constable who saved him is named Surendra. He showed presence of mind and acted in time. After recovering from the shock, the passenger is seen touching the constable's feet to thank him.
Since the video went viral, Constable Surendra has received wide praise. The video is much discussed online. People are saying that at a time when most people are absorbed in their smartphones and pay no attention to those around them, few come forward to help.
The incident also carries a lesson. Boarding or alighting from a moving train is dangerous, however late one may be. A small lapse can cost a life, so do not rush, and put a safe journey first.
