Toll rates raised at five Mumbai entry points from October 1
The MSRDC has raised tolls by Rs 15 to Rs 35 at the Vashi, Airoli, Mulund, LBS and Dahisar toll plazas, hitting commercial and heavy vehicles.
Daily commuters into Mumbai will now pay more. Toll rates at the five toll plazas on the city's entry points have been raised from October 1. The plazas are at Vashi, Airoli, Mulund, LBS and Dahisar. Depending on the vehicle, tolls have gone up by Rs 15 to Rs 35.
The increase has been made by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). It will directly affect drivers of minibuses, trucks, buses and heavy vehicles, who will have to pay more than before when crossing the Mumbai border.
Under the new rates, minibuses and light commercial vehicles (LCVs) will pay Rs 90 at all five plazas. Trucks and buses will pay Rs 180, while heavy vehicles will pay Rs 225. Every driver entering Mumbai will now pay extra on each trip.
Before the increase, minibuses and LCVs paid Rs 75. Trucks and buses paid Rs 150 and heavy vehicles Rs 190. The toll for LCVs and minibuses has thus gone up by Rs 15 and for trucks and buses by Rs 35. The toll for heavy vehicles has also risen. The increase will push up the cost of travel for commercial and heavy vehicles plying to and from Mumbai.
The revised rates will be charged at Vashi, Airoli, Mulund, LBS and Dahisar according to the type of vehicle.
To reduce traffic congestion in Mumbai and speed up commuters' travel, the MSRDC has built 55 flyovers in the city. The five toll plazas at Vashi, Airoli, Mulund, LBS and Dahisar were set up to recover the cost of building them. Toll collection at these plazas is expected to continue until 2027.
Drivers entering or leaving Mumbai through these plazas will have to pay the new rates from October 1.
