Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is forecast in six Vidarbha districts on November 1, while most of Maharashtra stays dry, the India Meteorological Department said.

November is set to begin in Maharashtra with a change in the weather. On Sunday, November 1, most parts of the state are expected to remain dry, but some Vidarbha districts will see cloud cover and light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning.

According to the forecast of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather could change suddenly in Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Yavatmal. Lightning strikes and strong winds are feared in these areas.

The department said these six Vidarbha districts could receive localised rain with thunder and lightning on November 1. Wind speed is expected to reach 30 to 40 km per hour. Residents of Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Yavatmal therefore need to exercise particular caution.

During lightning and thunder, people should avoid standing in open fields, farmland and under trees. Farmers and people living in villages have also been advised to keep track of the weather forecast.

The chances of rain are low in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar on Sunday. The sky may be partly cloudy, but the weather will remain mainly dry. Strong sun and humidity during the day may make it feel hot.

Parts of Pune city are likely to see cloud cover and light rain with thunder and lightning. Nashik, Kolhapur, Satara and Sangli may also get light showers because of local weather activity. In Marathwada, the weather is likely to change in some places in Latur and Dharashiv.

On Monday, November 2, the spell of rain may continue in Vidarbha. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is forecast in Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha and Washim. Mumbai and the coastal areas around it are likely to stay dry.

In view of the forecast, people in Vidarbha have been advised to stay alert for the next two days and to remain in safe places during lightning.
