Three killed in a week in accidents on Patan-Karad road near Malharpeth
Residents of Nisrefata, Girewadi and Malharpeth demand night checks, drunk-driving tests and safety measures after three deaths in eight days.
Malharpeth: Accidents have risen over the past few days on the Patan-Karad road around Nisrefata, Girewadi and Malharpeth, causing concern among residents. Three people have died in successive accidents in just one week, and the question of road safety has been raised once again.
The Nisrefata-Girewadi-Malharpeth stretch sees heavy vehicle movement through the day. Residents complain that some drivers speed, ignore traffic rules and drive drunk. As a result, serious accidents appear to be increasing along with minor ones.
The loss of three lives in successive accidents over the past eight days has left the whole area shaken. It is being said that young people in particular are driving at high speed. Residents are therefore demanding more vehicle checks and patrolling on this road at night.
Residents say drunk driving can endanger not only the driver but also other innocent people. They want the police administration to run a special drive on the road and test drivers for drinking. They also want action against vehicles breaking the speed limit and more regular night patrols.
With the accidents continuing, parents have also grown anxious. Parents and social workers are appealing to young people to keep their speed under control while riding a bike or driving a car, not to drive after drinking and to follow traffic rules.
There is also a growing demand for an inspection of the spots on the road where accidents are most frequent. Residents want speed breakers, direction signboards, reflectors, street lights and other safety measures at the necessary places. They also want the traffic and police administration to run an awareness campaign together.
Because of the repeated accidents, safe travel on the Nisrefata-Girewadi-Malharpeth road has become a serious concern. Residents hope the administration will act immediately, before more lives are lost.
