Three held after 10 years on the run for allegedly selling minor for Rs 55,000

Nagpur police arrested three accused, absconding for a decade, over the alleged sale of a complainant's minor daughter in Gujarat.

The Local Crime Branch, Railway, team in Nagpur has achieved a major success in an old case. Three accused who had been evading police for ten years have finally been arrested. Two of them are women. According to police, the accused face a serious charge of selling the complainant's 17-year-old daughter in Gujarat for Rs 55,000.

After the case came to light, police had filed a chargesheet against the accused in court. But since then the three had remained out of the reach of the police. The police team had been continuously searching for the absconding accused for this long period.

On the instructions of senior officers, the Local Crime Branch team kept watch on the movements and hideouts of the absconding accused. During this, on September 21, police received a tip-off that all three accused were hiding somewhere in Nagpur itself.

Once the information was confirmed, the police team acted immediately. A special team laid a trap in the Kharbi Road area and caught all three accused. The arrest of the accused, who had evaded police for ten years, has given a major boost to the investigation into this old case.

The arrested accused have been identified as Shubham Vikas Paturkar (32), Rita Vikas Paturkar (60) and Neha Irfan Shaikh (30). All three are reported to be residents of Roshanbagh, Kharbi Road.

Police are now trying to determine the role each accused played in the entire episode of taking the minor to Gujarat and allegedly selling her. They are also investigating where the accused were hiding over the years and who they were in contact with during this period.

The entire operation was carried out under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Mangesh Shinde, Additional Superintendent of Police Dr Dattaram Rathod, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ravindra Shinde and Assistant Superintendent of Police Pandurang Sonawane.

The team included Inspector Punjabrao Dole, Assistant Inspector Prithviraj Ghorpade, Sub-Inspector Dinkar Bhutekar, along with several police personnel. The police operation has led to major progress in a case that had been pending for a decade.
