Three cars vandalised at Nagpur's Vaishali Nagar park, one suspect caught by residents
Residents caught one of three men fleeing after windows of three cars were smashed at Dayanand Park ground in Panchpaoli police limits.
The windows of three cars were smashed late at night at the Dayanand Park ground in Vaishali Nagar, under Panchpaoli police station limits in Nagpur, spreading fear in the area. Local residents caught one of the accused as he fled and handed him over to the police, while his two associates escaped.
The incident is said to have taken place between about 9 pm and 9.30 pm. Chirag Nanwane, a resident of Rani Apartment in Vaishali Nagar, had parked his car on the Dayanand Park ground. Meanwhile, unidentified youths smashed the windows of three vehicles parked there, including his.
Hearing the sound of breaking glass, people living nearby rushed to the spot and seized one of the youths as he ran. He has been identified as Abhijit Nikose, 29. His two associates fled.
According to local residents, the three youths were first sitting on the ground allegedly smoking ganja. They then bet among themselves on smashing car windows, and the three vehicles were vandalised.
Residents nearby are angry over the incident. Citizens say anti-social elements gather at Dayanand Park at night. They have demanded that the police step up night patrolling and act against such people.
Panchpaoli police are investigating the case. The search for the two absconding accused continues. Residents complain that there is little surveillance around the park at night, and want a greater police presence so that such incidents do not recur and people can park their vehicles without worry.
