Three cars were allegedly vandalised late at night at the Dayanand Park ground in Vaishali Nagar, Nagpur, an area that falls under the Panchpaoli police station. Local residents caught one of the accused and handed him over to the police, while his two associates allegedly fled the spot.

The incident is said to have taken place between about 9 pm and 9.30 pm. According to a complaint lodged with the police, Chirag Nanwane, a resident of Rani Apartment in Vaishali Nagar, had parked his car at the Dayanand Park ground. Unidentified youths allegedly smashed its windows and also allegedly broke the windows of two other vehicles parked nearby.

Hearing the sound of breaking glass, people nearby rushed to the spot. They are said to have caught one of the youths who was trying to flee. He has been identified as Abhijeet Nikose, 29. His two alleged associates managed to escape.

According to local residents, the three youths had been sitting on the ground before the incident and were allegedly smoking what was described as ganja. Residents allege that they dared one another to break the car windows, after which all three vehicles were vandalised.

The incident has caused concern in the area. Residents claim that groups of anti-social elements often gather at Dayanand Park at night. They have demanded that the police step up night patrolling and act against such behaviour.

Panchpaoli police are investigating the case and are searching for the two suspects who are absconding.
