Three-car crash near Mhaswad kills one, injures nine
A head-on collision involving three cars near Mhaswad left one driver dead and nine others injured on Saturday.
A three-car collision on the Vadjal-Mhaswad road, about 500 metres past the HP petrol pump within the limits of Vadjal village (Man taluka), left one person dead and nine injured on Saturday around 11:30 am.
Sanjay Dinkar Patil, 48, a resident of Vadgaon Haveli in Karad taluka who was currently living in Palus, Sangli district, died during treatment. A total of nine people travelling in the other two cars were injured.
According to police, Patil was driving a Swift car bearing registration MH-10 FA-0628. Ignoring the condition of the road, he was driving at high speed. While overtaking an Ertiga car bearing registration MH-10 BM-3735, driven by complainant Ganesh Ramchandra Jadhav, Patil's car collided head-on with a Swift Dzire car bearing registration MH-42 H-7121 coming from the opposite direction.
After the collision, the Swift car rammed into the front of the Ertiga car, causing heavy damage to all three vehicles. Archana Sanjay Patil, 36, Harshad Sanjay Patil, 17, Ashok Akaram Suryavanshi, 54, Aruna Ashok Suryavanshi, 43, and Ankita Ashok Suryavanshi, 21, all travelling in the Swift car, were injured.
Ganesh Keshav Kamble, 35, and Akash Mohan Kamble, Vidya Mohan Kamble and Meenal Mohan Kamble, all residents of the Mhaswad/Devapur area and travelling in the Swift Dzire car, were also injured. All the injured were treated at Sanchit Hospital in Mhaswad.
Based on a complaint by Ganesh Ramchandra Jadhav, a case has been registered at Mhaswad police station under crime number 276/2026. The case has been filed under sections 106(1), 281, 125(a)(b), 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. However, Sanjay Patil, the accused in the case, died during treatment after the accident.
Police head constable D. P. Khade (buckle number 376) is investigating the case further, under the supervision of Assistant Police Inspector Poman of Mhaswad police station. Police said the situation is under control following the accident.
